CWB Testing

Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) Testing Center

The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) serves as the national certifying body for structural welders across Canada. CWB certification aligns with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) W47.1 / W47.2 and is required for welders working on steel structures, buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure projects in various industries such as construction, fabrication and heavy equipment.

CWB testing is available bi-weekly at the Institute of Technical Trades’ Toronto welding facilities.

Tests can be booked in advance by contacting us at (416) 750-1950.

For further information contact us here.

Each welding process and position requires a separate test. Welders must successfully pass each position—flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead—in succession for their certification to be valid. A successful CWB Welder Qualification Record is valid for two years.

CWB testing is available in the following processes:

SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW/Stick)
SMAW - Mild Steel
SMAW - Stainless Steel
SMAW - Aluminum

GAS METAL ARC WELDING (GMAW/MIG)
GMAW - Mild Steel (MIG)
GMAW - Stainless Steel (MIG)
GMAW - Aluminum (MIG)

GAS TUNGSTEN ARC WELDING (GTAW/TIG)
GTAW - Mild Steel (TIG)
GTAW - Stainless Steel (TIG)
GTAW - Aluminum (TIG)

FLUX-CORED ARC WELDING (FCAW)
FCAW - Mild Steel (Flux-Core)

ITT Programs Include CWB Testing

As an accredited CWB and TSSA test centre, the Institute of Technical Trades (ITT) offers CWB testing to students.

Our programs integrate CWB qualification tests into the practical training curriculum to equip students with essential welding skills and expertise, and ensure compliance with national and provincial safety and quality standards.

Earning qualifications from the CWB validates a student’s skills and expertise, opening doors to new opportunities and enabling them to excel in demanding and regulated structural industries such as construction and manufacturing.

Benefits:

• Industry Relevance: These qualifications are widely recognized in key sectors such as construction and manufacturing making certified welders more employable and competitive.

• Compliance with Regulations: Many welding jobs, especially those involving structural steel require welders to hold CWB qualification, ensuring that workers adhere to provincial and national safety codes.

• Career Advancement: Training programs that include these qualifications equip students with the credentials needed to take on more specialized and higher-paying roles.

• Hands-on Preparation: Incorporating these tests into training provides practical, real-world experience with the types of projects and standards welders will encounter in their careers.

Note: CWB testing is available to non-students with advance booking.
