WELDING ASSESSMENTS
Welding Assessments evaluate the current skill level of experienced welders in preparation for specific welding certification tests and/or determining the appropriate training required to achieve specific welding goals.
An assessment typically lasts up to three hours unless otherwise specified. During an assessment, welders demonstrate skills specific to targeted welding processes / certification goals. Results and training recommendations will be provided upon completion. Welding Assessments are an assessment of a welder’s knowledge and skill, not a training session.
Welding Assessments are available Monday to Friday (9am-2pm) | Tuesday & Thursday (7pm-10pm).

What is a Red Seal Trade Qualification?
A Red Seal Trade Qualification is a nationally recognized certification that confirms a tradesperson's expertise as a journeyperson and facilitates their ability to work across provinces and territories in Canada.
In Ontario, Skilled Trades Ontario administers trade certifications and apprenticeships.
For welders, the Red Seal endorsement on a Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) verifies that their skills and knowledge meet national standards, allowing them to work throughout the country. This certification, often referred to as simply Red Seal certification, is a benchmark for excellence in the welding trade.
To earn Red Seal certification, welders must have substantial experience in the welding field, provide evidence of practical welding skills that align with the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), and pass a four-hour written examination with a minimum score of 70%.
Eligibility to challenge the Red Seal written exam can be achieved through two main routes: 1) completing a registered apprenticeship, or 2) applying as a “Trade Qualifier.”
The Trade Qualifier pathway, managed by Skilled Trades Ontario, is designed for experienced welders, including those with training and experience from other countries, who seek Red Seal certification.
Trade Qualifier applicants must submit an application to Skilled Trades Ontario with evidence of 6,000+ hours in the welding field, and provide evidence of practical welding skills.
Specific certifications from organizations such as CWB and TSSA (ASME) may serve as proof of required practical skills.
For those without such certifications, Welder Practical Examinations (also known as Red Seal Practical Tests, or as a Red Seal Practical Assessment) are available to meet the practical skill requirements for the Trade Qualifier application.
The Institute of Technical Trades is an approved test centre for administering Welder Practical Examinations (Red Seal Practical Tests), as well as CWB and TSSA tests.
